We believe in serving the community in which we live. Christian love. In doing so, we hold an annual Friends and Family Weekend. The weekend provides opportunities for us to share the love of Jesus Christ with our community. There is food, games and more than 100 backpacks are distributed to grade school children in the neighborhood. Additionally, we prepare Thanksgiving dinner for members of the community and participate in Samaritan's Purse Shoebox Project.
The culinary ministry creates well-balanced menus for the church family and guests. Led by Sister Mary Allen, the ministry is responsible for and oversees the operation, use, and maintenance of the church kitchen and its equipment.
Our deaconesses have a caring spirit making them perfect for their many responsibilities. They serve the church by preparing the communion, assisting with baptismal preparations and mentoring young women in the church and the community.
Worship at Second Missionary Baptist Church is a lifestyle that is lived out in spirit and truth and through music. Under the direction of Dontrell Kelly, we are blessed to have a powerful church choir and musicians to worship God through hymns as well as praise and worship. There are opportunities for everyone in this ministry.
iHELP Ministry (I Honor Evangelism by Leading People), led by Adrien and Michell Grady, is designed to reach those in the community by sharing the priceless gift of God’s grace and forgiveness so others can have a relationship with Jesus Christ now and forever. The ministry organizes programs of evangelism to reach out to the community, to increase membership growth and spiritual development.
Sunday School ministry connects adults in a small setting to help members grow biblically together. Sunday School begins a 9:45 a.m. each week.
The bus ministry provides transportation to anyone who would not otherwise be able to come to church. Call the church to arrange this service. Additionally, the bus picks up Indiana State University students on campus at the Welcome Center every Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
The Ushers Ministry serves the church at our worship services and other congregations as needed. They greet and seat each guest as they arrive for worship and provide for their comfort throughout the worship service.
Word on Wednesday (WOW) Service is an in depth Bible Study led by our Senior Pastor J.S. Barleston, Jr. WOW helps you grow in your relationship with Christ and your relationship with others. No matter your age and stage of life, this group study is for you. We meet in the sanctuary the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m.
WOMEN OF GOD
The Women of God ministry, led by our very own Lady Barbara Barleston, nurtures the women of our church and our community as they grow in faith. The ministry connects women with the resources, support and encouragement needed to strengthen their relationship with God.
